Freedom's Breath

The horse ran free across the plain.
The Songbird trilled in the morn's refrain.
So free yearn I again to be,
And dare to proclaim that inner me!
Oh, break! ye egg of sheltering gloom!
Unloose the shackles of this room!
Please crack, safe shell of self-restrain!
Deliver me unto the cleansing rain!
I'm not so frail that I'd float astray,
Allowing my goals to sink in decay.
Just once again, my soul must see
   The wild peace of serenity.
Alone I trod and axe and pound.
One day, that freedom will be found.
Because I've been there and know how t'would be
To be so alive you can call yourself free!
